Cupcake Craverz

About Cupcake Craverz

Cupcake Craverz is a dessert business that specializes in making homemade custom desserts using premium ingredients. The goal of the business is make your tastebuds happy by indulging in exquisite desserts.

If you haven't guessed it by now, Cupcake Craverz is a small business that I run part-time and I love every second of it.

When designing this site, I kept in mind elegance, and love so I made my theme colors baby pink, white, black and gold. White, black and gold are associated with premium taste where baby pink brings an aura of warmth and love.

Site Map

From a navigation perspective, I wanted this site to be easy to navigate and direct so I started off by creating a site map. The most important thing for me was to ensure that I wasn't overloading my users with useless information so I focused on essentials only.

Ordering process

In my first 6 months of running my business, my customers found me on Instagram or on google. The frustrating point for me was interacting with multiple customers continuously in order to understand what product they're looking for. This was quite an inefficient process resulting in loss of time and customers. I knew I had to tackle this pain point while building my site.

Since this was a business on a smaller scale with custom dessert offerings, I didn't want to offer ordering services directly from the site so I created an online ordering form. The purpose of this form was to allow the user to select their preferred dessert, date and add any customization notes.

Users

I quickly learned that my customers are young adults between the age of 25 - 40 and mostly females. These customers typically purchase multiple types of desserts for events like birthdays, baby showers and wedding or engagement receptions.

User persona: Leeza Smith

Age: 27

Education: Bachelor of Arts

Family: 2 siblings

Occupation: Interior designer

I am a freelance interior designer and I live a super busy life, talking with clients, and different vendors to get it all done. My sister's birthday is coming up and I'd like to get her a customized cake - the problem is all bakeries near me offer standard cakes and my sister wants a customized cake for her 25th birthday which is just 4 days away! I've spent so much time researching the cake design that I would like to quickly place this order without any delay.

Frustrations:

  • Difficult to find business's that offer customized desserts

  • Wants to efficiently place an order without any more delays

Goals:

  • Purchasing a customized cake in an efficient manner.

Design process

After conducting my user research and creating my user personas, I captured the main design priorities:

  • Easy navigation

  • Structured pages

  • Menu page with photos

  • Simple and user friendly site

Starting off with digital wireframes:

I felt that the second wireframes aligned more closely with my design priorities.

Under each tab I wanted photos to represent the product with a text description for each photo. The idea behind this was to make it an accessible site for users. Adding text based description for photos is important for users with visual impairments while helping others as well.

The menu page uses Gesalt’s similarity principle well by grouping all the elements in one size and adding pictures per product category - this allows the user to connect elements together.

I added a separate page for cakes so it's easy to find for my customers. I wanted the structure of the page to be synonymous with the menu page.

For the photos page, I opted to go with the wireframe on the top because the image carousel allows the user to see all the photos at the bottom all while having the ability to enlarge the photo.

I wanted to add a review page to persuade my customers to purchase my products however, majority of my reviews were from instagram so I decided to keep a social media banner for all pages instead.

After the wireframes, instead of creating prototypes, I went straight to Godaddy.com to create my site.
